2011: Year in Review

January 2nd, 2012

Hi guys! Ashley here. Hope you are all looking forward to a great 2012, I know I am but I wanted to provide a look at 2011 in review, I know it’s a long blog but it’s always grounding to take a look back every now and then to see how far we’ve come on this musical journey together.

2011 in Review

In January I was completely thrilled to realize a dream of touring in Australia. The people that helped organize the Tamworth Country Music Festival stages were wonderful and I got to play for so many amazing Aussie fans and made a lot of new friends. I cannot wait to head back armed with new music and do it again!

I encountered a bit of a setback after returning from Australia and battled a case of viral laryngitis! Losing your voice is very scary for a singer so I definitely promised to pay better attention to my health. Fortunately I recovered it just in time to perform at the National Folk Alliance Conference in Memphis, TN in February. It was a very inspiring experience and I loved representing Manitoba Music. Thank you to everyone at Manitoba Music for putting together such a great experience. It also doesn’t hurt that I got to see one of my heroes Darrell Scott perform and spend some time in Memphis.

After a much needed spring vacation, I was thrilled to attend the Key West Songwriter’s Festival in May with many of my talented friends and had a wonderful time performing there as well. For those of you who haven’t been I highly recommend it! It was a fun festival but I decided to take a hiatus from touring this summer and focus creatively on completing the songs that would become my new album. It was the right choice as I feel very proud of every note on the new record. I did miss touring but I enjoyed a fun filled summer in Nashville with my music friends as well as the Billboard Country Music Summit in June, the Summer NAMM Conference in July, the International Bluegrass Music Association Conference in September, mixed in with co-write sessions, album pre-production, songwriter rounds, and acquiring my very own Scheerhorn resonator guitar! I was also very thrilled to be named the European CMA Female Vocalist of the Year, an honour I was not expecting but was very inspiring to receive as I headed back into the studio.

Finally with all my songs in hand, John Nicholson and I assembled a great team and began cutting the new album at Hilltop Studios. It went by far too quickly but over the past few months I feel very proud of the new record that we’ve created. Thank you also to Tommy Dorsey who has been listening intently to every quirk and creating a wonderful sounding mastered product, Tim Taylor the fabulous songwriter, and my patient vocal coach Laura Donohue, you are the best. More highlights occured in November when I was admitted to ResoSummit 2011 and achieved American citizenship! Phew.

After a busy holiday season, I am so ready to have the new music out and it will be available very soon. In the meantime watch for my song “Woman in the White Dress” making it’s motion picture debut at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival in “Compliance”. Keep checking back here for updates and also on my facebook page and twitter. We will be announcing the new single and I will try to provide a sneak peek!

Thanks so much to you for reading and to everyone who has supported me, it means the world.

Oh and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Love Ashley

Springtime

March 12th, 2011

Hi all, Ashley here, the sun is shining in Nashville today and spring seems to be upon us finally! I haven’t written in a while because I’ve been super busy but definitely need to take time to update you.

My time at Tamworth Country Music Festival was sooo much fun and I really appreciate everyone that I met and got to play music for and with, thank you so much to everyone down under for supporting my music and country radio for playing my songs, I am already so looking forward to my next time with you all. Check out my new  and improved facebook page to see photos from the tour as there are too many to post on the blog!

Unfortunately I didn’t win the Guitar Center contest, there were so many good artists competing, but I have just received fabulous news about my latest single “Return To Me” as it is currently the NUMBER ONE song on country radio in Belgium, Norway and the Netherlands and the TOP most played song of the last survey of European Country Music Association’s radio station members, jumping from #75 to #8 with a bullet. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR PLAYING MY MUSIC!!! Check out the chart HERE for yourself.

On a much different note, my heart is breaking for the people of Japan and it’s very difficult to sit here and feel so helpless, the country music fans and DJs of Japan have been so supportive of my music and now they are all in such devastating need I pray that the nations will rally around Japan and we can all have a part in helping them. The world is truly a small place when it comes to sharing love and music with each other and I have been very fortunate to experience that firsthand.

Much love,

Ashley
